Applying to the New York City Specialized High Schools
There are nine specialized high schools in NYC. Created by the NYC DOE to serve the needs of academically or artistically gifted students, they have their own separate admissions process. This process includes a standardized test (the SHSAT) and in the case of LaGuardia, a portfolio or audition. This talk will provide an overview of these schools, school visits, and the application process. It will also discuss managing expectations and outcomes to maximize high school options, and SHSAT preparation and best practices.
